Violent scenes erupt outside former Kerala CM’s residence as protesters clash with CRPF personnel
Supporters of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan allegedly attacked Enforcement Directorate officials and security personnel during raids linked to the CMRL-Exalogic money laundering case, triggering chaotic scenes outside his residence in Thiruvananthapuram.
Visuals from the scene showed a large crowd surrounding an ED vehicle and smashing its windshield while central security personnel attempted to control the situation. Protesters were also seen confronting CRPF personnel deployed to provide protection to the probe agency team.
A Kerala police officer sustained injuries during the clashes. Footage showed fellow policemen helping the injured officer while trying to disperse the crowd amid rising tensions outside Vijayan’s residence.
According to ED sources, the agency is preparing to file a police complaint regarding the attack on officials who were carrying out official duties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Sources said vehicles belonging to the central probe agency suffered damage during the violence, although no ED officer was physically injured in the incident.
The raids were conducted a day after the Kerala High Court lifted the stay on the ED investigation into the controversial CMRL-Exalogic case involving Veena Vijayan, daughter of the former Chief Minister.
The Enforcement Directorate carried out searches at multiple premises linked to the case, including Vijayan’s rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram, his house in Kannur, and the Kozhikode residence of Beypore MLA and former minister PA Mohammed Riyas, who is married to Veena Vijayan.
Officials reportedly spent several hours examining documents and electronic records connected to the investigation.

Tensions were not limited to Thiruvananthapuram. In Kozhikode too, police personnel struggled to escort ED officials safely as CPI(M) workers staged protests outside the residence of Mohammed Riyas.
The situation reportedly escalated after some CPI(M) workers allegedly hurled empty bottles at CRPF personnel before attacking the ED vehicle.
The incident is likely to intensify the political battle in Kerala, with opposition parties accusing the ruling Left camp of attempting to intimidate central agencies through street mobilisation and violence.
