Authorities issue safety advisory as explosive trial at Ramgarh range creates two-kilometre danger zone
Residents living near the Ramgarh testing range in Haryana’s Panchkula district have been advised to remain indoors on May 31 as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) prepares to conduct a high-power bomb trial at the facility.
The test will be carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation through its Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), one of India’s premier defence laboratories specialising in the testing and evaluation of explosives, ammunition and advanced weapon systems.
Local authorities have issued precautionary advisories for villages and residential areas surrounding the range, urging residents to stay indoors during the scheduled testing period and avoid venturing into open spaces.
Officials stressed that the exercise is a routine defence-related trial conducted under strict safety protocols and that there is no reason for public concern.
According to information shared by defence scientists, the explosion is expected to be extremely powerful, with fragments from the test potentially travelling up to 1.5 kilometres into the air.
As a result, authorities have designated an approximately two-kilometre radius around the impact area as a splinter danger zone, where access will be restricted throughout the duration of the test.
The trial will be conducted under the supervision of senior officials from the Indian Air Force, with extensive safety measures put in place to minimise any risk to nearby communities.
In a communication addressed to the Panchkula administration, TBRL Technology Director C. Sarkar requested that residents of Bhanu and Billa villages remain indoors while the testing is underway.
Authorities have also advised residents of Asrewali, Naggal, Moginand, Kishangarh, TMV Colony and areas under the Ramgarh Municipal Council to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary movement during the scheduled test window.
Officials have appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumours and to follow instructions issued by local authorities and law enforcement agencies.
The bomb trial forms part of India’s ongoing defence research and weapons testing programme aimed at evaluating the effectiveness, reliability and safety of advanced military systems.
