
Police said at least two gunmen were involved in the shooting near Toledo’s Old West End Festival
At least 12 people were injured after gunfire broke out near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, prompting a major police operation to track down those responsible.
According to Toledo Police, the shooting occurred near the annual Old West End Festival, a popular event that attracts thousands of visitors with live music, food vendors, home tours and shopping activities.
Authorities said two of the victims remain in critical condition, while several others sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
Police launch manhunt
Speaking to reporters, Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said preliminary findings suggest that at least two individuals were firing weapons and may have been shooting at each other.
Police have launched an active search for the suspects and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The outbreak of gunfire triggered panic among festival-goers, with videos circulating on social media showing people running for safety as shots rang out.
Governor expresses concern
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine expressed concern over the incident, stressing that public events should remain safe spaces for families.
“I am deeply concerned about the situation in Toledo tonight. Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence,” he said in a statement.
The Old West End Festival is considered one of Toledo’s most popular annual community events and is often regarded as the unofficial start of the city’s summer festival season.
Police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as investigations continue.
