The indigenous jet-powered kamikaze drones are designed for long-range precision strikes and operations in contested electronic warfare environments
In a major boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities, the Indian Army has received 106 jet-powered kamikaze drones designed for long-range precision strikes against high-value enemy targets.
The delivery includes 100 operational “Peacekeeper (Agniveg)” drones and six training units. Developed in India, the unmanned systems are designed to target command centres, radar stations, logistics hubs and other strategic military assets deep inside hostile territory.
According to manufacturer SMPP, the drones successfully completed user trials and demonstrated a circular error probable (CEP) of less than five metres, highlighting their high level of strike accuracy. The systems also achieved an operational range of approximately 180 kilometres.
Powered by jet propulsion, the drones can reach speeds of up to 450 kmph, enabling rapid engagement of targets while offering a cost-effective capability between conventional artillery systems and long-range missiles.
One of the key features of the Peacekeeper drone is its ability to operate in heavily contested electromagnetic environments. The company said the system can continue executing missions despite hostile electronic warfare measures, including jamming and spoofing attempts.
SMPP, traditionally known for its ballistic protection solutions, has expanded its defence portfolio into drone technology, counter-drone systems and ammunition manufacturing.
SMPP CEO and Director Ashish Kansal described the delivery as a significant milestone for both the company and India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. He noted that modern warfare is increasingly driven by precision, autonomy and affordability, making advanced unmanned systems critical to future battlefield operations.
Kansal said the company remains committed to developing indigenous technologies that strengthen the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces while supporting India’s goal of defence self-reliance.
The company also revealed that it has proposed an upgraded version of the drone with an extended operational range for future procurement programmes.
