Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor by changing the display pictures across his social media platforms and paying tribute to the Indian armed forces for their role in the operation.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s strong response against terrorism and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to national security.

“A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during Operation Sindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour. Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security,” PM Modi wrote.

He further praised the professionalism and coordination of the armed forces.

“It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces. At the same time, it showcased the growing jointness among our forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to our national security. Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem,” the post read.

To commemorate the anniversary, PM Modi changed the display pictures on his handles across X, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp Channel.

The new image features the words “Operation Sindoor” against a black background with the Indian tricolour. One of the letters “O” in “Sindoor” is marked with vermilion, symbolising sindoor traditionally worn by married Hindu women.

    Operation launched after Pahalgam attack

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a tourist guide.

The operation involved coordinated action by the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Border Security Force along the western border.

Military operations were carried out between May 7 and May 10, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure and military facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The operation was widely projected as a calibrated tri-services response focused on precision, coordination and strategic preparedness.
