A Police Sub-Inspector attached to Bengaluru’s Amruthahalli Police Station has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a juvenile and subjecting him to degrading treatment while investigating a murder case. The action came after a video of the alleged abuse surfaced and reached senior police officials.

The accused officer, identified as PSI Praveen, has been booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections of law.

Video triggers action against officer

According to police sources, the incident allegedly occurred a few months ago when PSI Praveen questioned multiple accused, including juveniles, in connection with a murder case registered last year.

Instead of keeping the juveniles at an authorised facility, the officer allegedly detained them at a private location.

During the detention, Praveen is accused of physically assaulting the juveniles with a belt and subjecting one juvenile to degrading and abusive treatment involving another juvenile. The alleged incident was reportedly recorded on his mobile phone.

The video later came to the attention of senior police officers, prompting immediate action.

Case registered under POCSO

Following the emergence of the video, a criminal case was registered against PSI Praveen at Kothanur Police Station.

He has been arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with other applicable sections of law.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and determine if additional offences were committed.
