CM Manik Saha said attacks on security personnel are a matter of grave concern and must be dealt with firmly under the law
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were assaulted by a group of smugglers in the Ashabari area under Boxanagar in Tripura on Monday morning, triggering tension in the locality.
According to reports, the attackers also attempted to snatch firearms from the injured jawans and vandalised a government vehicle. The incident took place near the India-Bangladesh border.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the attack in a post on X, calling it a brutal assault on “our brave BSF personnel” by a group of miscreants. He said such violence against security forces was completely unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
The Chief Minister said the concerned authorities had been directed to take swift and stringent action against those responsible and to ensure that justice was delivered. “Our security personnel deserve the utmost respect and protection,” he said.
The BSF has not yet issued a detailed statement on the condition of the injured jawans or on any arrests, according to the reports available so far.
Earlier, in July 2024, BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das had said the force was beefing up security at sensitive outposts and had launched a crackdown on smugglers and touts along the border.
