Lashkar terrorist Zakir Ganai killed after four-day anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian
A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist identified as Zakir Ganai was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, bringing to an end a four-day-long anti-terror operation that had seen the area placed under a tight security cordon.
The operation was launched after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of two terrorists hiding in a dense orchard in Shopian. The Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sealed all possible escape routes and deployed additional personnel to prevent the militants from fleeing.

Intensive search operation
Security forces maintained surveillance over the suspected hideout for several days, using drones and other technical intelligence while conducting systematic searches through the orchard and surrounding areas.
Officials said the operation entered its fourth day before security forces established contact with the terrorists, leading to a gunfight in which Zakir Ganai was neutralised.
Hunt for second terrorist continues
Authorities said efforts are continuing to trace and eliminate the second terrorist believed to have been hiding in the area. The operation remains underway, with security personnel maintaining a tight cordon around the encounter site.
Officials have not disclosed further operational details, citing security considerations.

The encounter is part of the security forces’ ongoing counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir aimed at dismantling terror networks and preventing infiltration.
Security agencies have intensified intelligence-based operations across the Valley in recent months as part of efforts to curb militant activities and maintain peace in the region.
