[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]I[/dropcap]n his much-awaited Dussehra Speech, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat skipped the quota row triggered by his last month’s comment in an interview and tried to tame the “hate brigade” in the country by insisting that India stood for unity in diversity.
Bhagwat’s statement that there was need to review the existing reservation policy for the other backward castes and Dalits so that the targeted beneficiaries are not deprived for the vision of the constitution-makers has become a major poll issue in Bihar and the BJP’s rivals have accused the ‘Parivar’ of conspiring to rob the OBCs and Dalits of the benefit of reservation. But Bhagwat steered clear of the controversy, much to the disappointed of BJP leaders who would have expected him to clarify his stand on the matter so that they could try to prevent caste polarization in Bihar.
The silent majority of youth who voted (or will be voting soon) will decide the outcome of Bihar – whether they want to listen to a message of development or the caste of their presumptive leaders.
