A picture of Junaid with a rifle has appeared on social networking websites. suggesting that Khan has joined Hizbul-Mujahideen militant outfit.

An MBA graduate from Kashmir University Junaid Ashraf, son of a newly elected Chairman of Tehreek-e- Hurriyat Mohd Ashraf Sehrai has reportedly joined pro-Pakistan militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen to fight jihad in Kashmir valley.

This is the first instance where the son of a senior most separatist has joined ranks of a militant outfit leaving behind comfort zone of his family home.

Meanwhile, a picture of Junaid with a rifle has appeared on social networking websites. The message with the picture suggests that Khan has joined Hizbul-Mujahideen militant outfit.

There was no immediate confirmation from the police whether Junaid has joined militant ranks.

“If the cause is so holy, they should first set an example by making their own children stone-pelters.”

The state police chief Dr SP Vaid Saturday said, “we are investigating the matter before confirming whether Junaid Ashraf has joined ranks of a militant outfit or not”.

For a long time, several separatists from Kashmir valley have been receiving brickbats from different quarters for pushing young generation on the path of violence while shielding their own children and keeping them away from the ‘politics of bloodshed’.

Meanwhile, police in Srinagar said Junaid Ashraf had been missing since Friday prayers. On Saturday his family first came forward with a missing report and later his picture brandishing an AK 47 assault rifle and wearing an armor vest went viral on social media on Sunday, the official said.

Last year, when the street violence was at its peak MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh had taunted separatists saying whether they were ready to make their children stone-pelters for their “cause”.

“If the cause is so holy, instead of getting the poor neighbors to become stone-pelters, they should first set an example by making their own children stone-pelters and this applies equally to some of the mainstream politicians,” he added.

According to the police, Rashid Ashraf Khan, brother of Junaid, arrived at the police station Saturday afternoon. He told us that his brother is missing since yesterday,” said a police official from Sadder police station where the family has lodged a missing report.

The family, as per police official, has stated in the missing report that Junaid had gone for Friday prayers and had told his family that he will return in the evening after repairing his mobile phone at Lal Chowk.
