PLA held real-combat drills using nuclear, biological, chemical weapons in Tibet

In an event organized by the Tibet Military Region under the Western Theater Command (WTC), the joint military brigade of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted an anti-nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare drill in Tibet. A wide range of soldiers from the army participated in the exercise, including commandos, armored assault groups, and chemical warfare-trained soldiers.

This military drill comes on the backdrop of Sino-Indian border tensions in eastern Ladakh.

On Tuesday, an official PLA news portal reported the results of the 24-hour exercise held in late November. “In late November, a joint military brigade under the Tibet military area command conducted a real-combat drill on a snowy plateau,” the article stated.

“A synthetic brigade of the Tibet military region carried out a cross-day and night mobile multi-arm coordinated actual combat drill”. “After rockets were launched and the armored assault group was deployed, army engineers were called in to install explosives on the targeted “obstacle”, the article said.

“The drill closely focused on the ‘enemy’ situation, focusing on key and difficult subjects such as day and night maneuvering and multi-arms coordination, and tempered the firepower attack capability of the troops in complex environments,” the report added.

The article said, “After rockets were launched and the armored assault group was deployed, army engineers were called in to install explosives on the targeted “obstacle”. Subsequently, the commanding officer warned of “nuclear, biological and chemical attack.”

The WTC is China’s largest command that is in charge of the Sino-Indian disputed border extending over 3,488 kilometers from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Tuesday, an official PLA news portal reported the results of the 24-hour exercise held in late November.
