CPWD to transplant trees for PM’s Enclave
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has permitted the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), a unit under the Union government to transplant 173 trees from the site of the proposed Prime Minister’s Enclave under the Central Vista project.
The new PMO is coming up fast, near the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party is hailing this as a rare gesture. In New Delhi, the peculiar approval of the Chief Minister is needed to create a forest-like zone. Hence the Union government approached Kejriwal. Though the BJP and AAP may have an adversarial relationship, in these matters, the AAP is coming forward to help the BJP.
The new enclave will house the Prime Minister’s Office, among other offices and facilities. This new PMO will be ready by the end of this year or early 2024.
“The nation is now set to get a new PMO. When CPWD sought permission for transplantation of trees, CM Arvind Kejriwal took up the matter on priority,” the Delhi government said in a statement. An official said the approval had been granted on condition that the agency will transplant ten times the number of trees it is transplanting.
