Tiranga Bike Rally for Parliament members held with scores of participation, opposition skips event

As India is gearing up to celebrate its 75th Independence Day across the country, the Ministry of Culture’s ‘Tiranga Bike Rally‘ was flagged off by Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu at the Red Fort.

The Tiranga Bike rally began from the Red Fort to the Parliament in Delhi on Wednesday morning. The Tiranga rally was attended by scores of MPs as well as ministers.

Union Ministers Prahlad Joshi, Piyush Goyal, and Smriti Irani were spotted at the bike rally with Tricolour flags. BJP President J P Nadda urged party members to actively participate in ‘prabhat pheris‘ (morning processions) from 9 am to 11 am, while the youth wing to carry out the Tiranga yatra on bikes across the country. The Central government has made elaborate plans in view of the 75th Independence Day.

Speaking on the occasion Vice President Naidu said, “The celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav over the past year marking India’s glorious 75 years of freedom culminates this, Independence Day. That is why it’s all the more important. The purpose of the yatra was to inculcate personal contact between the citizens of India and the national flag.

He further said, “Please recall the memories of the great sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. The path shown by our people and the values that we have inherited from our Indian culture, heritage…they are to be preserved and passed on.”

Naidu added, “Irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex, and region India is one. We are one nation, one people, one country; this has to be remembered by one and all. This is the message of this Tiranga, so take that message to the people.”

The ministry of culture tweeted, “The Tiranga Bike Rally has been flagged off by the Hon. Vice President M Venakiah Naidu, Hon. Culture Minister Kishan Reddy BJP, Hon. MoS for Culture Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon. MoS for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India, Joshi Pralhad & several MPs.”

“A significant event was organized today. We started off from the historical Red Fort and several Union Ministers, MPs, and youth leaders came together and paid homage to the freedom fighters,” said Union minister Anurag Thakur said.

While slamming the opposition parties for their absence from the event, in a tweet, BJP spokesman Shehzad Poonawalla said he could see only ruling National Democratic Alliance lawmakers participate in the rally. “As per media – Congress/ TMC/ AAP/ SP missing? Does Tiranga belong to a party or nation? From Rashtrapati to Tiranga why such apman?”
