CBI raids at 30 premises of Satya Pal Malik in corruption case; former J&K Governor reacts

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday conducted raids at more than 30 locations including those linked to former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik. The CBI started its operation in the morning, with around 100 officers mobilized to swoop down at the 30 locations in multiple cities of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, besides Delhi and Mumbai, the officials said.

Premises linked to Malik at R K Puram, Dwarka, and Asian Games Village in Delhi, besides those in Gurugram and Baghpat, were searched, they added. The raid is being conducted into alleged corruption linked to the Kiru Hydroelectric project contract in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The CBI raid is seen as a clear political vendetta as ex-Governor Malik was turned into a hard critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the past two years. Two years ago, during his fag end of Governorship, Satyapal Malik claimed that there were attempts to bribe him for clearing Anil Ambani’s insurance projects for government servants and clearing files Kiru Hydropower project. According to Malik, Rs.300 crore was the bribe offer. He also named then BJP’s General Secretary Ram Madhav in the bribe offers in the projects.

Though Ram Madhav said he would file a defamation case against Malik more than two years ago but has not turned up to date.[1]

Recently Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached Rs.36 crore worth of assets of Anil Ambani’s Reliance Insurance and other intermediary companies in the health insurance scam. The CBI started a probe into this after Satyapal Malik disclosed the bribe offers to him.[1]

According to Satyapal Malik, he had alerted the corruption and bribery attempts to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also accused the Goa government led by the BJP of corruption and nepotism in supplies during Covid days.

Reacting to the CBI raid, Satyapal Malik said that this was a clear political vendetta. He tweeted:
