The flight will operate from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata
On Monday Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flagged off the first flight from Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. It was IndiGo’s flight from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata.
Scindia virtually flagged off the flight from New Delhi. The flight will operate from Itanagar to Mumbai via Kolkata.
Among others, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju attended the event virtually.
At the event here, IndiGo Principal Adviser R K Singh said Itanagar is the airline’s 75th domestic destination.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on November 19. It is the fourth operational airport in the state.
‘Donyi Polo Airport’, the first greenfield airport of Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19. It is situated in Holangi, Itanagar will boost connectivity in the northeast, and has been developed in an area of over 690 acres at a cost of more than Rs.640 crore.
‘Donyi’ means the sun and ‘Polo’ means the moon. The airport is suitable for all weather day operations, and the runway is 2,300 metres long.
The Donyi Polo Airport is the third operational airport in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the northeast region to 16. Aircraft movement in the northeast has also witnessed an increase by 113 percent since 2014, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1,817 per week in 2022.
