[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]E[/dropcap]fforts by activists of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at Thuravoor in Alappuzha district of Kerala to marry off a poor girl were thwarted by a group of policemen led by local police inspector Abhilash on Sunday at the instance of the CPI-M leaders. The action has earned the CPI-M the name Kalyanam Kalakkikal (Malayalam for the term those who thwart marriages).

The police led by Abhilash threw away to dust the entire feast which was prepared for serving hundreds of guests who had turned out for the marriage.

This happened within hours of PGurus’ report that no one is safe in CPI-M ruled Kerala. The arrangements for the orphaned girl, an inmate of the Madhavam Baalika Sadanam (Home for Young Girls) at Thuravoor run by Seva Bharathi, were made by leaders of the Alappuzha district wing of the RSS.

A highly inebriated Abhilash, sub-inspector of police, working at Kuthiathode Police Station in the district, gatecrashed into the venue of the marriage and took into custody a youth who had come to attend the marriage. Though some of the guests who had come for the marriage took objection to the police action of arresting a person from the marriage hall, they allowed the police to take him into custody when told by cops that there was a complaint against the concerned person.

Though the cops led by Abhilash left the venue with the person, they returned to the Baalika Sadanam within minutes and destroyed all arrangements which had been made for the simple but elegant marriage ceremony. The police led by Abhilash threw away to dust the entire feast which was prepared for serving hundreds of guests who had turned out for the marriage.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]W[/dropcap]hen the leaders of the Sangh questioned the logic behind the action of the police and pleaded with them to allow the marriage to take place, sub-inspector Abhilash assaulted P Rajesh, district secretary of the RSS. The inspector asked all the guests who had assembled for the marriage to leave the venue at the earliest.

Kummanam Rajasekharan, president, Kerala BJP, rushed to the spot on hearing the news and said that no one is safe in the CPI-M ruled Kerala.

Meanwhile, Gireesh, another office bearer of the Sangh, who rushed in to help Rajesh who was lying unconscious, too was assaulted by the inebriated inspector. Both Rajesh and Gireesh have been admitted to Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha where it was detected that Rajesh’s cheekbone was broken in the attack by the inspector.

Kummanam Rajasekharan, president, Kerala BJP, rushed to the spot on hearing the news and said that no one is safe in the CPI-M ruled Kerala. The action by the inspector is seen as yet another attempt by the CPI-M to scuttle and sabotage the quality social works being done by RSS activists in the State. The CPI-M in Kerala is fighting with its back to the walls following charges by a Thrissur based woman that she was raped by top CPI-M leaders in the district. K Radhakrishnan, district secretary of the CPI-M, hitherto known as a Marxist with clean habits, has jumped into the forefront to save Jayanthan, the CPI-M district councillor who is the prime accused in the rape case.

Meanwhile, Cherian Philip, the Congressman-turned-CPI-M leader has launched an initiative to tarnish the image of the woman who levelled allegations against the CPI-M leaders. Philip, who was an acolyte of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, jumped fence and joined the CPI-M prior to the 2006 assembly election. Though he contested the assembly elections, the voters found him unfit to be an MLA and voted for the opponent. Though Philip had blamed the voters, the CPI-M leaders rehabilitated him as the chairman of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, the first time he was anointed to a political post. The KTDC is yet to regain the reputation which was damaged during the tenure of Philip.

The two incidents, that of the rape of the Thrissur woman and the action of the police inspector at Thuravoor, reportedly at the instance of local CPI-M leaders have shown the Marxists in poor light. “It seems the CPI-M leaders do not like poor women being married off as they need their services to meet their carnal desires. The situation is similar to what the IS terrorists are doing to the Yazidis in Iraq,” said a veteran political commentator in the State.
