The Democratic rebuttal to an extremely publicized GOP memo (Demo-Memo) alleging government surveillance abuse is filled with sensitive information, a source told Fox News – claiming that this was done intentionally to pressure the White House to either block the memo’s release or considerably redact it. The White House had previously released the Nunes memo without any changes – by putting sensitive data in their memo, the Democrats and trying to force the hand of the White House into a no-win situation. If they redact it, they will be blamed for it and if they don’t, they will be criticized for leaking national secrets.
The claim comes after the House Intelligence Committee voted Monday to approve the release of the Democratic document.
“We think this will help inform the general public of the numerous distortions and inaccuracies in Republican memo,” California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the panel, told reporters.
The vote was unanimous, he said.
While the source described this as a way to place the White House in a difficult spot, Schiff maintained publicly that he wants to ensure the White House “will not redact our memo for political purposes.” A Schiff aide referred Fox News[1] back to those remarks when asked about the claim that the memo intentionally included sources and methods.
Schiff again said Tuesday on CNN that he’s worried about the White House making political redactions – not to protect sources, but to block details that could possibly be unfavorable to the president.
The New York Times reports that the President will release the Demo-Memo with sensitive portions blacked out, once it undergoes legal and national security review[2].
This Memo duel reminds one of the Nirma ad, where one man wonders how come the other’s shirt is whiter?! Ultimately this is all hot air and has no bearing on the Mueller investigation of the Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential elections.
