ECI issues notice over MCC violation complaints against Modi, Rahul
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a show cause notice to the BJP president on allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his rally.
A show cause notice has also been sent to the Congress chief for Rahul Gandhi’s violation of MCC.
The ECI requested a response from both party chiefs by 11 a.m. on April 29th.
The ECI has stated that political parties will bear primary and increasing responsibility for the behavior of their candidates, particularly star campaigners. The ECI emphasized that high-ranking officials’ campaign speeches have far-reaching consequences.
The BJP alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made false claims about the increase in poverty in the country and urged the Election Commission to take “strict action” against him.
In a complaint to the poll panel, the BJP also accused Gandhi of perpetuating a North-South divide in the country based on language and region to disrupt the electoral atmosphere.
During a rally, PM Modi exposed the Congress manifesto saying, “The Congress manifesto says that they will calculate the gold with mothers and sisters, and then distribute that property. They will distribute it to whom… Manmohan Singh’s government had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s assets.”
