Elon Musk bats for ‘less divisive’ candidate in 2024 but still supports Trump’s Twitter comeback

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday reiterated that the incumbent CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal should restore the account of former US President Donald Trump. Twitter, along with other platforms including Facebook, barred former US President Donald Trump from tweeting in the wake of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol building.

In a tweet, the tech billionaire said, “Even though I think a less divisive candidate would be better in 2024, I still think Trump should be restored to Twitter.”

Musk further said that “Twitter should authenticate all real users and prioritize those replies above unauthenticated users”.

Earlier, on Tuesday Elon Musk said he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former President Donald Trump if his acquisition goes through. Musk has said he would end Donald Trump’s ban from Twitter, saying he thought the decision to block the former president was “morally wrong”.

Speaking at the ‘Financial Times Future of the Car‘ summit, the billionaire said that the ban on him was a “mistake”. “I do think that it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake,” said Musk who called himself a “free speech absolutist”.

“Banning Trump from Twitter didn’t end Trump’s voice. It will amplify it among the right and this is why it is morally wrong and flat out stupid,” he was quoted as saying.

Trump, however, has decided not to join the micro-blogging site despite Musk buying it, saying “Twitter has become very boring”.

Tesla and the rocket company SpaceX owner Elon Musk is in the process of completing a takeover bid for Twitter, which accepted his $44 billion offer last month. The acquisition is expected to close over the next three to six months.
