UN chief’s remarks on Hamas attack sparks controversy

After the remarks made by UN Chief Antonio Guterres over terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan, has called for the resignation of Guterres.

He said that there was no point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel.

The Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who is on a visit to the US, has cancelled his scheduled meeting with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, over the latter’s “support” for attacks by Hamas on October 7.

“I will not meet with the UN Secretary-General. After October 7, there is no balanced approach. Hamas must be erased from the world,” Cohen said, according to officials.

Ambassador Gilad Erdan wrote on X, “The UN Secretary-General, who shows understanding for the campaign of mass murder of children, women, and the elderly, is not fit to lead the UN. I call on him to resign immediately.”

“There is no justification or point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people. There are simply no words.

Erdan further said the UN chief’s remarks on the Israel-Hamas war proved that he is completely disconnected from the reality in Israel and sees the rocket attack launched by Hamas in an immoral manner.

“The shocking speech by the UN Secretary-General at the Security Council meeting, while rockets are being fired at all of Israel, proved conclusively, beyond any doubt, that the Secretary-General is completely disconnected from the reality in our region and that he views the massacre committed by Nazi Hamas terrorists in a distorted and immoral manner,” he said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday said that the attacks by Hamas on October 7 did not happen in a vacuum.

“Palestine has been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. So, October 7 attacks have not taken place in a vacuum,” Guterres said at a meeting of the UN Security Council, according to media reports.

He said that the Palestinians have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements, plagued by violence, their economy stifled, their people displaced, and their homes demolished.

“Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing. I am deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza.” the UN chief said.

  3. UN Chief has a foot in mouth disease. They solved nothing, talk & interfere in everything, cannot keep silent when it is a good policy for he is drawing tax free salary for nothing. Now Arabs pay him to talk nonsense, he is happy to support anything that M* wants. Time to dismantle this organization
