Police say accused opened fire while attempting to flee after fatal attack on 17-year-old Surya Pratap
The prime accused in the murder of a Class 11 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad was killed in a police encounter late Saturday night after allegedly opening fire on a police team attempting to arrest him.
According to officials, the accused, identified as Asad, was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Surya Pratap, who was attacked in Khoda Colony on Thursday evening and succumbed to his injuries a day later.
Police said they received intelligence that Asad was planning to meet associates in the Khoda area to collect money before fleeing. Acting on the tip-off, multiple police teams launched a search operation and established checkpoints across the locality.
During the operation, Asad and one of his associates were reportedly spotted arriving on a motorcycle. When police attempted to stop them, the accused allegedly opened fire on the officers.

Accused shot during exchange of fire
Officials said police retaliated in self-defence after coming under attack.
“Police teams tried to intercept the suspects, but instead of stopping, they opened fire. During the retaliatory action, Asad sustained gunshot injuries,” police said.
The accused was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A police constable injured during the exchange of fire is currently undergoing treatment.
Authorities recovered the motorcycle used by the accused as well as a pistol allegedly used during the encounter. Investigators are continuing to examine all aspects of the incident.
Student stabbed multiple times
The victim, Surya Pratap, was a Class 11 student at a private school and lived in Navneet Vihar, Khoda Colony.
In a complaint filed with police, Surya’s elder brother Yash alleged that Asad attacked the teenager with the intention to kill.
According to the complaint, Surya was with his friends Ayush and Vicky when they encountered the accused in a lane near Sharma Dairy. An argument reportedly broke out before Asad allegedly stabbed Surya multiple times in the abdomen.
The injured student was immediately taken to a private hospital but later died from his injuries.
Eyewitness account raises disturbing questions
One of Surya’s friends, Vicky, told investigators that the group had earlier been invited to the accused’s locality in connection with Bakrid celebrations.
According to his statement, a conversation between the teenagers escalated into a confrontation.
Vicky alleged that Asad made provocative remarks before the attack and invited Surya to witness the slaughter of a goat. When Surya attempted to leave the area, the situation allegedly turned violent, culminating in the fatal stabbing.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading to the murder and whether others were involved in the incident.
