An investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has revealed the incident of the attack on police constables at the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur by Murtaza Abbasi was inspired by Zakir Naik. Naik, who fled India in 2016, is accused of involvement in terror financing, giving hate speeches, money laundering, and inciting communal disharmony.

Abbasi had attacked police personnel outside Gorakhnath Mandir in Gorakhpur with a sharp weapon. He was trying to forcefully enter the temple premises while shouting Allah-Hu-Akbar. However, he was apprehended by the Police officers stationed at the temple.

The two Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) constables were injured when they tried to stop the accused who went to a PAC post near gate number 1 and tried to attack the police.

On April 4, Chief Judicial Magistrate Deepak Nath Saraswati sent Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi to Police remand for seven days.

As per reports, suspicious items, including jihadi videos were found on his laptop and pen drive of Abbasi. Currently, the police are probing if the accused is related to IS or any terrorist outfit. Moreover, the accused’s search history has shown that he looked up content on how to conduct a lone-wolf attack.

Reports further stated that the initial investigation has revealed that Murtaza Abbasi had gone to Mumbai, Coimbatore, and Nepal in the last few days. The sleuths are also questioning Murtaza’s two assistants.

UP ATS team officials today reached Mumbai to investigate the Gorakhnath Temple attack case. Yesterday, the team visited Navi Mumbai where the accused Murtaza used to live earlier with his family. Murtaza did not meet his family members for the last three years.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today visited Gorakhpur to take stock of the ground situation. Yogi Adityanath also announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for the two jawans and constable for foiling the attack.

Uttar Pradesh officials have termed the attack on two constables at a gate of the famed Gorakhnath Temple as a “terror incident”. “The attack on police jawans at Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur is a part of a deep conspiracy, and based on the available facts, it can be said that it was a terror incident. The attacker had tried to enter the temple premises with bad intention, which was neutralized by the brave jawans of the PAC and police,” the UP Home Department said in its statement.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi confirmed that the Gorakhnath Temple attack incident will be investigated by the UP ATS.

  1. What comes naturally to the M* gang is what they are displaying, they are lovers of humanity and media is unnecessarily raising issues. He should be allowed to do HIS will. Even High Court & Supreme Court agree that unless one kills more than 25 persons, he cannot be called murderer. Similarly cheating or looting or scam of 10-15 crores is nothing, case should be filed only when the break even target of Rs. 25,000 like our Anil Ambani.
