One IAF personnel ‘killed in action’ and four others received bullet injuries

One Indian Air Force personnel was killed in action and four others received bullet injuries when a group of heavily armed foreign terrorists ambushed a convoy of IAF vehicles in the Dana Shastar area of Mendhar tehsil in the frontier district of Poonch late Saturday evening.

The provocative strike is aimed at spreading a reign of terror in the region where different political parties are holding election rallies ahead of the final voting. As per the revised schedule, voting is set to take place for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on May 25.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Air Force on X (earlier Twitter), “An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&K, near Shastar. In the ensuing gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. In the process, five IAF personnel received bullet injuries and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior succumbed to his injuries later”.

Preliminary reports indicated the IAF convoy was ambushed by a group of terrorists already hiding in the area. The foreign terrorists targeted the front cabin of the IAF vehicle to inflict maximum injuries on the IAF personnel.

Immediately after the terror attack was reported, massive search operations were launched in the area by the local military units to pin down the terrorists behind the strike.

This is the ninth major attack on security personnel since October 2021 in the region.

On 21 December 2023, Four army personnel sacrificed their lives and three others received critical injuries after their vehicles were ambushed by the hiding foreign terrorists in the general area of Dera ki Gali in the Poonch district.

Five Indian Army personnel including two officers were ‘killed in action’ in the Kalakote forest area of Rajouri on November 22.
