Contempt petition filed against Sanjay Raut over ‘relief scam’ remark

Indian Bar Association has filed a contempt petition cum PIL against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and others for levelling “false, scandalous and contemptuous allegations” against judges of the Bombay High Court.

The association of lawyers cited Raut’s allegations against high court judges and the entire judiciary after BJP’s Kirit Somaiya was given interim protection from arrest in a cheating case as the main reason behind the petition

The petitioner has also made Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and Saamna Editor Rashmi Thackeray respondents.

In a statement, the Indian Bar Association said that the main reason for filing the petition was the allegations made by Sanjay Raut against Bombay High Court Judges and the entire judiciary alleging a biased approach in granting relief to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.

“As per Sanjay Raut, the courts, on one hand, granted relief to people related with BJP but not granting relief to the accused belonging to Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), etc. His indication was towards the no relief by the courts to the jailed Ministers Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh,” the statement further read.

The Bombay High Court had granted interim protection from arrest to Kirit Somaiya in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds collected in the name of saving the decommissioned naval aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.

A case has been registered against Kirit Somaiya and his son Neil Somaiya under Sections 420, 406, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the Trombay Police station in Mumbai for INS Vikrant financial bungling.

Raut questioned the Bombay high court order granting interim protection from arrest to Somaiya in a case related to the alleged misappropriation of funds collected to save decommissioned warship INS Vikrant from scrapping.

  1. Sanjay Raut is an innocent man and BJP is on vendetta (the only Inglish word that Indian know). BJP is afraid of something being written in SAMNA paper, which is a Bible for Shiv Saniks or Shiv Insanes.

  2. Supreme Court can come to rescue anti-India agents & anti India society, is a sign of good development for SC can now promoting downtrodden whose sole job is to uplift society by stone pelting and committing other social crimes.

  3. Love Sanjay Raut for his bold & idiotic comments. Wish BJP had similar loud mouth speakers !!
BJP should work to bring in Randeep Surjewala, Sanjay Raut, Supriya into BJP for they are popular mouth pieces on media channels.
