Jaishankar conveys Modi’s message as India and Russia discuss expanding strategic ties
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on Monday and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings along with a personal message. The meeting came during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to Russia to co-chair the 27th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission.
Putin and Jaishankar discussed the growing India-Russia partnership, including trade, energy, fertilisers and nuclear cooperation. Jaishankar also briefed the Russian President on the outcome of the recent intergovernmental commission meeting, saying economic cooperation between the two countries had grown significantly.
Modi-Putin meetings in focus
During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed that PM Modi looks forward to meeting Putin at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit. He also conveyed PM Modi’s invitation to Putin for the BRICS Summit in India. The two leaders are additionally expected to hold their annual India-Russia summit at a mutually convenient time.
The discussions come as New Delhi and Moscow continue to expand their longstanding strategic partnership across economic and strategic areas. Putin has also credited PM Modi’s personal attention with contributing to the growing India-Russia relationship and bilateral trade.
