BJP members tore the resolution papers during protest inside the Legislative Assembly
Fulfilling its poll promise, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference-led alliance government headed by Omar Abdullah passed a resolution on Wednesday demanding the restoration of the special status amid strong protests by the Bharatiya Janta Party.
The resolution, which Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved, was passed by voice vote asking the Centre to hold dialogue with elected representatives for restoration of special status.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference posted on X, “Fulfilling its another manifesto promise, JKNC government led by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah passes a resolution against snatching of our constitutional guarantees and special status. We now know – J&K refuses the decisions taken on August 5, 2019!”.

Soon after the resolution was moved by the Deputy Chief Minister the BJP MLAs came into the well of the house to protest the move, leading to uproar in the House.
They were shouting slogans like ‘National Conference sharam karo (have some shame) and ‘Pakistani agenda nahi chalega’ after the Speaker passed the resolution with a voice vote. BJP members torn the resolution papers during protest inside the Legislative Assembly.
Amid the chaos the speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the House.
Omar Abdullah in his first cabinet meeting had earlier passed a resolution on restoration of J&K’s statehood.
Later Omar traveled to New Delhi on October 25 where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and handed over a resolution seeking early restoration of statehood to the union territory.
