PM Modi to visit Ukraine in August
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Kyiv in August, marking his first trip to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began on February 24, 2022, according to sources.
Earlier, PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in June on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. While in a telephone conversation with Zelensky in March, PM Modi discussed ways to strengthen the India-Ukraine partnership.
While reiterating the nation’s people-centric approach, PM Modi had assured Zelensky that India would continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution.
In July, there were significant diplomatic exchanges between India and Ukraine, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, as well as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Yermak, engaging in telephonic discussions.
EAM Jaishankar on his social media platform X had shared that he “spoke about furthering our bilateral relationship.
After PM Modi was re-elected to power, Zelensky congratulated him and invited him to visit the war-ravaged country.
Earlier, PM Modi visited Russia, where he received a warm welcome from President Putin. PM Modi had a two-day visit during which he said, “There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward. India has always called for respecting the United Nations Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
