Senior BJP leader LK Advani is chairman of the Ethics committee.
“One MP had sent a complaint to me regarding this. Whenever an MP sends a complaint to the Speaker, it is referred to the committee as per rules. That particular complaint has been referred to the Ethics Committee,” Mahajan told a news agency. over phone when asked about the issue.
In a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Giri had said, “It is necessary that people should get to know the reality in this issue. Request you to initiate an appropriate inquiry.”
Earlier in the Swamy tweeted, “Today a LS official said that Speaker has sent my complaint on Buddhu’s British nationality to the Ethics Comte for probe. I will confirm.”
Swamy had alleged that Rahul claimed himself to be a British national before their authorities and demanded that he be stripped of Indian citizenship and Lok Sabha membership.
Swamy had circulated copies of documents extracted purportedly from the company law authorities of Britain to claim that Gandhi had declared himself as a British national in documents related to a now-dissolved company. Ina letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Swamy described this as a violation of constitutional provisions and demanded that action be taken against Rahul.
The Congress had dismissed the charges, saying, Rahul Gandhi has never held a non-Indian passport and never been on non-Indian citizenship.
Party spokesperson Ajay Maken had said, “we don’t know what he (Swamy) has said. But he has the habit of getting back into news whenever he is sidelined.”
“From the day Rahul Gandhi was born, he has been an Indian national and always held an Indian passport,” Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had said.
