Eknath Shinde to be CM, not Devendra Fadnavis; BJP leader won’t be part of Govt, will extend support

While Maharashtra politics is witnessing twists and turns, a major decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has surprised everyone. While addressing joint media Former chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis declared external support to the Eknath Shinde camp and said that the Chief minister of Maharashtra would be Eknath Shinde.

The swearing-in ceremony of Eknath Shinde will take place at 7:30 pm. Earlier, Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, and Shinde submitted letter to stake claim to form Maharashtra government.

In the briefing, Fadnavis announced that BJP Legislature Party and the Shiv Sena Legislature Party, under Eknath Shinde, along with 16 independent MLAs have come together to form the government. Shinde will lead the government as the Chief Minister, Fadnavis further announced, adding that he will see to the functioning of the government from ‘outside‘.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said, “We had an alliance with Shiv Sena during the last election. The MVA had delayed several development projects. Two MVA ministers are involved in money laundering case. Everyday Veer Savarkar was insulted. No development work was done under the MVA government.”

At the press conference, Eknath Shinde thanked BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis for all his support. “Fadnavis has a very big heart. I thank all who supported us.”

“Whatever happened in the last two-and-a-half years was described by Fadnavis. Our work was stalled,” said Eknath Shinde, adding that the Sena-BJP alliance was a natural alliance. But in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, MLAs were not happy. No one has joined us with selfish motives. The decision which we took today is for the Hindutva and ideology of Balasaheb along with the agenda of development in the constituencies of our MLAs,” he said.
