β€œThe first phase of deportation of illegal immigrants from Myanmar was completed today. Without any discrimination, we have completed the first phase of deportation of illegal immigrants from Myanmar with 38 more immigrants leaving Manipur, India today through Moreh. A total of 77 illegal immigrants have been deported in the first phase. One Indian national was also brought back from Myanmar during the handover ceremony.

β€œThe State government is continuing the identification of illegal immigrants and at the same time, biometric data are being recorded. Let’s keep our borders and country secure,” said Chief Minister Biren Singh, posting photos of deportation in Social Media:

Proliferation of new villages

The Chief Minister who had earlier warned about the proliferation of new villages attributed to illegal immigration, reiterated the severity of the issue. The surge in new settlements, largely driven by the unchecked flow of illegal immigrants from neighboring Myanmar, has not only altered the demographic landscape but also led to environmental degradation, with Forest cover indiscriminately cleared to make way for settlements and illicit activities, including poppy plantations.

Moreover, the encroachment on resources, job opportunities, and land rights of indigenous populations has exacerbated tensions within the region, prompting decisive action from the Manipur government. For the past one year, Manipur has witnessed heavy blood-shedding, chaos, and tussles between ethnic tribals Meiteis and Kukis.[1]
