Frustrated, defeated, and blissfully ignorant Mehbooba Mufti

Rattled by PM Narendra Modi’s August 2019 path-breaking reform scheme and Supreme Court’s December 11, 2023 historic judgment on atrocious Articles 35A and 370 and conversion of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) into Union Territory (UT) of J&K and UT of Ladakh, president of Kashmir-based separatist People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, has gone berserk.

Pouring venom, batting for terrorists

On January 7, she poured venom while addressing a gathering of party workers and supporters in Bijbehara, Kashmir, at the mausoleum of her father and PDP founder, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on his eighth death anniversary. She, among other things, said: “We will not surrender; we will not raise the white flag. If you talk to us with dignity, we will respond with respect. However, if you talk through batons like you did in Bafliaz (Jammu), it will not work…There (in the Northeast) you talk to militants while in J&K you have branded ordinary people as militants. You have filled the jails by carrying out (indiscriminate) arrests. The Enforcement Directorate, NIA, SIA raids…Does anyone treat their own people like this?”

“Learn something from Mufti sahib…He tried to connect the hearts of people. He gave a way to separatists also so that they can live within this country with dignity. Mufti never said a wrong thing…He always held on to one flag only but he only said the people of J&K want peace with dignity,” she also said.

Comparing apples and oranges

While pouring venom and virtually threatening the nation, the frustrated, defeated, and blissfully ignorant Mehbooba Mufti ignored what the December 29, 2023 peace agreement signed in Delhi between the Arabinda Rajkhowa-headed faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, provided for. Or, to be more precise, she misled her followers and supporters in Kashmir by not speaking the truth, or by telling a white lie. Her whole objective was to convey the impression that the Modi Government had knelt and conceded the unsettling demands of the ULFA.

What did peace agreement provide for?

According to the agreement, the ULFA leadership agreed to “renounce violence, disarm, disband the armed organization, vacate their occupied camps, participate in the peaceful democratic process established by the law, and to ensure the integrity of the country contrary to what the ULFA had initially demanded” (sovereign Assam).

The agreement said that the “Ministry of Home Affairs will make a time-bound programme to fulfill the demands of the outfit and a committee would be formed for its monitoring.” The agreement also underlined “a comprehensive package entailing an investment of Rs.1.5 lakh crore for the all-round development of Assam.”

The most significant part of the peace agreement was the “commitment to address the political demands of the ULFA” and “these include maintaining the territorial integrity of Assam through the amicable settlement of boundary disputes with neighbouring states in the Northeast and continuation of the “guidelines and methodology” adopted for the “delimitation exercise conducted in 2023 in future delimitation processes.”

The peace pact provided for “maximum representation for indigenous communities in the 126-member Assam Assembly by keeping non-original inhabitants, primarily migrant Muslims (read illegal aliens, including Bangladeshis), out.” “The 2023 delimitation is said to have made it impossible for non-indigenous communities to contest 106 of these seats,” one report in this regard said.

The peace agreement, in addition, sought “exemption for Assam from Section 3 of the Citizenship Act of 1955 dealing with people who have renounced Indian citizenship or whose citizenship has been terminated, to conditionally stop people of one constituency from being registered in another, and prepare an error-free National Register of Citizens, whose updated complete draft had put 19.06 lakh people out of 3.3 crore applicants on the rejection list.”

The fact of the matter is that the peace agreement didn’t provide for anything that compromises even slightly the nation’s sovereignty in Assam. Nor did it talk about separate constitution, separate flag, and residuary powers. On the contrary, it only talked about national integration, unity and integrity of Assam, development, democratic processes and people’s participation in the democratic processes, and illegal aliens/ Muslims.

Agenda of Mufti, Gupkar subversive and communal

And what is the agenda of Mufti and Farooq Abdullah-headed and Srinagar-based Gupkar Gang of which she is also the vice-president? Her agenda and the agenda of Gupkar seek reconstruction of the dismantled bridge of hatred between this region and the rest of the country through the restoration of seditious Articles 35A and 370. Their agenda seeks restoration of the nasty J&K Constitution of 1957 framed by a 100 percent rigged constituent assembly and 100 percent National Conference (NC)-dominated constituent assembly and red and white flag, or their agenda seeks semi-independence for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh to start with. Their agenda seeks the promotion of Pakistani and Chinese geo-political and economic interests in J&K, or it seeks a dispensation that empowers Pakistan to share sovereignty with India in J&K and Ladakh, or it seeks the establishment of Nizam-e-Mustafa in this strategic region of the nation. Their agenda seeks full freedom for anti-Bharat forces in Kashmir and a long rope for subversives and terrorists in the Valley so that they could bloody and convulse the region’s socio-political scene with utmost ease like they used to do before June 2018 in collaboration with subversives in the establishment, in the Kashmiri Muslim ruling elite, and in the state legislature. Their agenda seeks the creation of a Kashmir-like situation in Jammu province so that it also becomes Hindu/Sikh-free. Their agenda seeks a dispensation that makes New Delhi pump billions of rupees into Kashmir so that the Kashmiri Muslim politicians-cum-separatists enrich themselves at the cost of the nation and also misuse the hard-earned Bharatiya rupees to help terrorists in Kashmir lead a life of luxury and subvert the polity from outside.

In short, the agenda of Mufti and the Gupkar is subversive, anti-Bharat, anti-Hindu, and anti-Sikh, and it is based on religious fanaticism and a barbarous medieval model.

Separate Jammu state imperative

One thing is absolutely clear: The Kashmiri politicians are separatists and fanatics and they shall remain so forever. They will not reform as they belong to the Jinnah School of Thought or Osama bin Laden School of Thought. It is also clear that they would recapture the state power in case Assembly elections are held in J&K as the demographic profile of this region is such. Hence, the separation of Jammu province from Kashmir is imperative like a separate dispensation for the oppressed, suppressed, and expelled Kashmiri Hindus with Kashmir is imperative. Not just this. Kashmir has to remain a UT for all the times to come and it has to be a Chandigarh-type.

It is hoped that PM Modi and HM Amit Shah, who created a history of sorts on August 5-6, 2019 to bring the separatist of separatists and communalist of communalists Abdullahs, Muftis, Azads, Sozs, Lones, Tarigamis, Bukharis, to mention only a few, to the nation’s knees, will break the backbone of Kashmir jihad into smithereens by taking forward the process of reforms as suggested above.
