
To mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Ministry of Culture releases 3 pictorial books on 75 unsung heroes of freedom struggle
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Government of India in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha has released a pictorial book titled, “India’s Unsung Heroes”. The book narrates the bravery of various unsung women heroes who fought for India’s freedom.
Amar Chitra Katha publishes more than 400 comics in 20 languages. It was founded in 1967. Its comic books mainly highlight Indian stories including epics, mythology, history, literature, and folktales. So far, Amar Chitra Katha has sold over 100 million copies.
It will narrate the stories of lesser-known freedom fighters like Rani Abbakka, Matangini Hazra, Chakali Ilamma, or Parbati Giri. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations this year, the Ministry of Culture released three pictorial books on 75 unsung heroes of the freedom struggle in partnership with Amar Chitra Katha.
The PIB’s official Twitter handle said, “Ministry of Culture GoI in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha released a pictorial book titled, “INDIA’S UNSUNG HEROES” on Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle. This International Women’s Day Week lets us know and celebrate the bravery of such women heroes. Narishakti.”

The Ministry said in another tweet, “The pictorial book released by Ministry of Culture GoI highlights the bravery of Rani Abakka, the Queen of Ullal, Karnataka fought & defeated the mighty Portuguese in the 16th.

Earlier, the Union Government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amar Chitra Katha to publish and distribute a comic book on Swachh Bharat Mission. The MoU was signed between Amar Chitra Katha and the Union Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) to focus on Swachh Bharat Mission.
