Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns as Punjab Congress chief
On Wednesday, the Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from his post amid the Assembly poll results of 5 states.
Navjot Singh Sidhu had lost the Amritsar East seat to Jeevanjyot Kaur of the Aam Aadmi Party and was at the epicenter of a political storm when he took on then CM Captain Amarinder Singh ahead of the Assembly polls in the state.
Sidhu’s one-line resignation letter read, “To, the President All India Congress Committee. Respected Madam, I hereby resign as President PPCC.”
The cricketer-turned-politician shared the information about his resignation on his Twitter handle. He tweeted, “As desired by the Congress President I have sent my resignation …”

On Tuesday the Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said “Congress President, Sonia Gandhi has asked the PCC Presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur to put in their resignations in order to facilitate the reorganization of PCCs.”
Earlier this week, leaders from the G-23 group met at the residence of party veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad and demanded leadership change in the grand old party. They are slated to hold a meeting later on Wednesday to deliberate upon the demands for leadership change in Congress.
