BAT attack foiled, one terrorist killed
Barely hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out a stern warning to Pakistan declaring that the Indian Army would crush all terror attempts with full force, a Border Action Team (BAT) supported by the Pakistani army attacked a forward post of the Indian military in Kamakari sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday in which one soldier has so far sacrificed his life and four others have received injuries. In the heavy exchange of firing one terrorist has also been neutralized.
This is the eighth major attack on the Indian Armed Forces in the last 46 days in Jammu and Kashmir. So far 11 soldiers have sacrificed their lives in these attacks. The Indian Army has rushed additional troops to the region to plug the infiltration routes and adopt a new strategy to flush out these battle-hardened terrorists.
At present the operation is still in progress.
One of the four injured soldiers is a Captain rank official.
The BAT generally comprises special forces personnel of the Pakistan Army and terrorists.
On record, Srinagar-based Chinar Corps has claimed an exchange of fire with unidentified persons on a forward post in the Kamakari sector of Kupwara on the line of control. One Pakistani has been killed while two soldiers have received injuries and have been evacuated. However, official sources maintained a Border Action had been foiled by the alert Indian troops in which five army personnel suffered injuries in the ensuing operations. Further details awaited.
