Quetta Railway Station bomb blast

At least 21 people were killed and 30 others injured in a deadly blast at Quetta Railway Station, Pakistan, on Saturday, authorities reported. The explosion occurred as a Peshawar-bound express train was about to depart, according to Quetta’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Mohammad Baloch.

While it is still too early to confirm the exact cause, Baloch suggested that the attack appeared to be a suicide bombing. “An investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the explosion,” he said.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the blast. In a statement, Jeeyand Baloch, the group’s spokesperson, confirmed that the attack targeted Pakistani army personnel aboard the Jaffer Express, who were returning from a course at the Infantry School. “This morning, a fidayee (suicide) attack was carried out on a Pakistani army unit at Quetta Railway Station,” Baloch said, adding that the attack was executed by the BLA’s Majeed Brigade.

The explosion caused significant damage to railway infrastructure, and authorities have cordoned off the area as they investigate. Security forces are currently conducting searches around the site, and the situation remains tense.

The blast marks the latest in a series of attacks in the region, which has long been a hotspot for separatist and militant activity, particularly from groups like the BLA that seek independence for the Balochistan region.
