Hours after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj attacked Pakistan in front of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly session in New York a Pakistani helicopter Sunday violated the Indian airspace along the line of control (LoC) in Poonch sector.

“The Pakistan helicopter was also fired upon by the Indian troops but it managed to retreat inside the Pakistani territory.”

According to ground reports the Pakistani helicopter clearly violated the Indian airspace in the forward area of Gulpur in Poonch.

Confirming the incident of airspace violation Lt-Col Devendra Anand, Ministry of Defence spokesperson based in Jammu, said, “the air space violation by the Pakistan helicopter was reported in Poonch sector at about 12.10 p.m”.

According to ground reports, “the Pakistan helicopter was also fired upon by the Indian troops but it managed to retreat inside the Pakistani territory”.

Indian air force too had launched two fighter jets from its Udhampur based air force station to warn Pakistan against taking such provocative steps.

According to the bilateral agreement inked in 1991, a rotary wing aircraft will not fly within 1 km, fixed-wing aircraft ( fighters, bombers and reconnaissance planes) within 10 km of each others airspace.
