Rahul Gandhi didn’t declare 3 cases in his election affidavit: Why?

Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi has not declared the case on his British citizenship, initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in his election affidavit filed in Wayanad Constituency. Rahul Gandhi has also not declared the Income Tax case against him.

He had declared the defamation cases against him, mostly filed by RSS and BJP, and Subramanian Swamy’s case against him in the National Herald scam. However, Rahul Gandhi did not mention the details of the Enforcement Directorate’s case against him in the National Herald Scam, though the agency questioned him for five days.

Rahul’s 21-page affidavit is totally silent on the MHA’s case against him for holding British Citizenship. MHA issued notice to Rahul Gandhi on BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s complaint. Rahul Gandhi self-declared his British Citizenship in the British Company Registry from 2003 to 2009. As per his own declaration about his British company – BackOps Limited – Rahul declared himself as a British Citizen, living at two London addresses. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has been a Member of Parliament since 2004 and this is a clear case of violation of India’s Citizenship Act.[1]

In April 2019, MHA issued notice to Rahul for declaring himself as a British Citizen in the British Company Registry. As per Rahul’s own British Citizen declaration, his Indian citizenship has to be automatically cancelled. Recently BJP leader Subramanian Swamy wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah for delay in probe on Rahul’s self-declared British Citizenship.[2]

Recently, the Delhi High Court dismissed Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, and Priyanka’s appeal against Income Tax assessments. The case is currently pending in the Supreme Court. Rahul has not declared about this case in his affidavit[3]. Though mentioned about Subramanian Swamy’s case against him in the National Herald Scam, Rahul’s affidavit is silent on the ED’s case against him in the National Herald scam, where the anti-money laundering agency questioned him for five days.
