Subramanian Swamy writes to HM Amit Shah on Rahul Gandhi’s British citizenship matter

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to reply and take speedy action on the complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for holding British citizenship in a hidden manner. Union Home Ministry on April 2019 issued notice to Rahul Gandhi on Subramanian Swamy’s complaint exposing Rahul Gandhi for declaring his British nationality at the British company registry.

“I write this letter to bring to your notice that I have not received a reply to my letter of August 6, 2019, which is on an important matter evident on the face of the material in the letter.

“Briefly, I had brought to the notice of your predecessor, Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh, the case of Mr. Rahul Gandhi voluntarily disclosing to the British government that he is a citizen of British nationality holding a British Passport. Mr. Gandhi being an Indian citizen thus violated Article 9 of the Indian Constitution read with the Indian Citizenship Act. Hence he automatically would lose his Indian citizenship as per the Constitution and the law. Since I have waited now more than 4 years for a reply, although orally I had reminded you twice. Thus there has been an inordinate delay of more than 4 years since my last letter to your Ministry deciding the matter.

“I would be obliged if you could give me an early reply on the status of my complaint so that I may consider what further steps need to be taken to take the matter to its logical conclusion, said Swamy in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in November 2015 exposed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for secretly holding British citizenship while being a Member of Parliament. Rahul Gandhi was Director and major shareholder in a British company BackOps Limited. This company addressed in London shows that Rahul Gandhi had declared himself as a British Citizen from 2003 to 2009 and declared as a London resident while being MP in the Indian Parliament. This company was involved in several defence deals in India. Rahul Gandhi held 65% shares in this British company and was the Secretary and Director of the company.[1]

In November 2015, Subramanian Swamy complained about this British citizenship and the illegal holding of an MP post in the Indian Parliament. Union Home Ministry in April 2019 issued a show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi. The Congress leader has not yet given a conclusive reply to both notices, except saying that “none can doubt his Indianness”.
