‘Made in India’ trains go global: Jaishankar shares experience about a ride in Mozambique

On Thursday External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took a ride in a ‘Made in India’ train from Maputo to Machava with Mozambican Transport Minister Mateus Magala.

Jaishankar discussed India’s partnership in helping expand the train networks electric mobility and waterways connectivity with Magala.

The EAM arrived at Maputo from Uganda where he held talks with the country’s top leadership, including President Yoweri Museveni. He discussed possible cooperation in the areas of trade, infrastructure, energy, and defence.

He also interacted with the Indian community and also offered prayers at the Shree Vishvambhar Mahadev Mandir in Maputo.

Jaishankar, who is on a three-day trip to Mozambique, arrived in Maputo and met the President of the African country’s Parliament to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The trip to Mozambique is the first visit by an External Affairs Minister of India.

He took a ride on a train manufactured in India and tweeted about the train ride, “Took a ride in a ‘Made in India’ train from Maputo to Machava with Mozambican Transport Minister Mateus Magala. Appreciate CMD RITES Rahul Mithal joining us on the journey”.

Jaishankar said in a separate tweet, “A great green transport conversation with Mozambican Minister of Transport & Communication and Chairman, Mozambican Port & Rail Authority Mateus Magala. Talked about expanding train networks, electric mobility & waterways connectivity. India is a reliable partner in this regard.”

Jaishankar also virtually inaugurated the Buzi Bridge constructed as part of the 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project which will prove another step in strengthening India-Mozambique ties.
