BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday directed sharp criticism at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Telangana government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is “murdering democracy” following the arrest of BRS leader Manne Krishank over a social media post. In a post on X, KTR alleged that Telangana Police broke open the doors of Krishank’s residence and took him into custody, leaving his young daughter in tears as officers moved through the house.

KTR directed his criticism squarely at Rahul Gandhi, contrasting the Congress leader’s public positioning with what he described as the conduct of his own party’s state government. He argued that Gandhi’s stated commitment to constitutional values and free speech stood at odds with how the Telangana administration acted in this instance. KTR further claimed the arrest defied existing Supreme Court and High Court directions against detaining individuals over social media posts, framing the episode as a broader pattern of democratic overreach rather than an isolated incident. He posed a series of pointed questions publicly to Gandhi, asking whether criticising the state government now amounted to a punishable offence, and whether intimidating an opposition leader’s family was an acceptable method of enforcement.

According to the BRS, police officers used a hammer to break the lock on Krishank’s residence before entering, and the party shared visuals showing Krishank’s daughter crying and clinging to her mother during the arrest.

What The Case Is Actually About

The arrest stems from a case registered at Nampally Police Station over a social media post Krishank made concerning an alleged incident at Saifabad Police Station. In that post, Krishank had claimed that masked individuals entered the police station and attempted to attack KTR’s staff, alleging that five Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) had acknowledged that a Sub-Inspector intervened to stop the masked men from assaulting KTR’s personal assistant and PRO. Krishank said BRS had asked authorities to file an FIR and release CCTV footage of the incident, but claimed the Task Force instead moved to arrest him.
