PM Modi signals confidence in BJP win
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made a strong pitch for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the second phase of polling in West Bengal, expressing confidence that the party would form the next government in the state.
Addressing a public rally in Barrackpore, Modi described the event as his final campaign appearance in the ongoing election and said he would return after the results to attend the party’s swearing-in ceremony.
“This is my last rally in this election. I’m going back with the confidence that I will definitely attend the BJP’s swearing-in ceremony after the May 4 results. And that only increases my enthusiasm. I was coming here from the helipad. It was about a two-kilometre stretch. There was such a huge crowd on both sides. I can’t imagine thousands of people coming to bless me so early in the morning,” he said.
PM Modi attacks TMC
Launching a sharp attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, the Prime Minister alleged that industrial activity in West Bengal had declined under its rule, with several factories shutting down.
He said the state government lacked a clear roadmap for future development and stressed the need for a “double-engine government,” arguing that faster progress would be possible only when the state and the Centre worked in coordination.
Modi also criticised what he described as the TMC’s “syndicate system,” alleging that it needed to be dismantled. He further accused the ruling party of relying on intimidation and abusive politics instead of constructive governance.
State unsafe for women, says PM Modi
Targeting the TMC on law and order, Modi urged women voters to assess the party’s performance, alleging that it had failed to uphold their trust.
He claimed that the state had become unsafe for women and said the government had not respected the mandate given by the people. He called on voters to remember instances of alleged wrongdoing and intimidation linked to the ruling party.
Kolkata’s identity impacted
Referring to earlier promises, the Prime Minister said the TMC had pledged to develop Kolkata on the lines of London, but claimed that the city’s identity had deteriorated over the past 15 years.
He also alleged that illegal infiltration had been allowed in the city and appealed to residents to work together to preserve Kolkata’s original character.
Appeal to voters
Urging support for the BJP, Modi asked voters to choose the “lotus symbol,” saying it would ensure improved law and order, enable women to move safely even at night, and deliver justice to victims.
