Security forces launched Operation Sohan after receiving intelligence about suspected terrorist movement in Udhampur's Brattal area

Operation Sohan foils terror threat

A joint team of security forces neutralised two suspected foreign terrorists without suffering any collateral damage in the forested Majalta area of Udhampur district on Thursday.

The operation, code-named Operation Sohan, was launched during the intervening night of September 16-17 after troops noticed suspected movement and received intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the general area of Brattal, Udhampur.

A joint search by troops of the Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began around 9 pm on Wednesday in the remote forested terrain. Initial firing and some blasts were reported shortly after the operation started as forces targeted a suspected hideout. The area then remained largely quiet through the night.

On Thursday morning, the terrorists opened fire in an attempt to break the cordon. Security forces retaliated, leading to an encounter in which two terrorists were killed.
Identities and organisational affiliations of the slain terrorists were still being ascertained, with some reports suggesting they may have been foreign nationals possibly linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror outfit.

The Army’s White Knight Corps said the operation was conducted despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility. Search and surveillance operations continued in the area, with additional forces deployed to check for any remaining threat.

Officials described the action as part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist activity in the region.
