Telangana student killed in Chicago; had stayed back at work to help friend
A 22-year-old student from Telangana, Sai Teja Nukarapu, was shot dead at a petrol pump in Chicago on Friday, sparking outrage and calls for justice.
Sai Teja, who was studying in the United States and working part-time at the petrol pump, was reportedly not on duty when the shooting occurred. Sai had moved to the US to pursue an MBA after completing his graduation in India. He had taken up a part-time job to support himself while studying.
According to BRS leader Madhusudan Thatha, the victim had stayed on at the request of a friend when armed men attacked him.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago quickly responded to the news, demanding immediate action against the perpetrators of the crime. In a statement on social media, the Consulate expressed its shock and sadness over the murder and assured the family of Sai Teja of its full support.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened at the murder of Indian Student Nukarapu Sai Teja. We demand immediate action against the culprits. The Consulate will extend all possible help to the family and friends of the victim,” the Consulate posted on X.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed his grief over the incident, responding to the Consulate’s post. “Deeply grieved at this news. Our Consulate is rendering all possible assistance to the family,” he wrote on social media.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the victim’s hometown of Khammam in Telangana.
Sai Teja’s tragic death has highlighted ongoing concerns over the safety of Indian students in the US, with calls for swift justice continuing to grow.

Very sad that a young 23 year old for no fault of his is shot dead….so much for a country which values freedom over death !! To them there is NO respect of life
