“Hell will rain down”: Trump’s warning as US attacks on Houthis
At least 31 people were killed and over 100 injured after US President Donald Trump launched large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels on Saturday. The strikes were carried out in response to Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping. Trump issued a stern warning, stating that if the group does not cease its actions, they will face severe consequences, declaring, “Hell will rain down upon you!”
Trump warns Iran over Houthi support
Trump also directed a warning at Iran, the Houthis’ main backer, demanding an immediate end to its support for the group. He cautioned that any threat to the United States would be met with serious retaliation.
“America will hold you fully accountable, and we won’t be nice about it!” Trump asserted.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump made a direct statement to the Houthis:
“To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!”
Largest US military operation in the Middle East under Trump
The ongoing strikes represent the most extensive US military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office in January. The offensive coincides with intensified US sanctions on Tehran, aimed at pressuring Iran into nuclear negotiations, according to Reuters.
Houthis condemn strikes as ‘war crime’
The Houthis’ political bureau strongly condemned the attacks, labeling them a “war crime.”
“Our Yemeni armed forces are fully prepared to respond to escalation with escalation,” the group stated.
US military launches large-scale operation
The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) described Saturday’s operation as the beginning of a large-scale offensive across Yemen.
The strikes were partially conducted by fighter jets from the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, stationed in the Red Sea, officials confirmed.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a strong message on X (formerly Twitter):
“Houthi attacks on American ships & aircraft (and our troops!) will not be tolerated; and Iran, their benefactor, is on notice. Freedom of Navigation will be restored.”
Trump hinted at further military action, stating:
“The Houthi attack on American vessels will not be tolerated. We will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective.”
Yemen residents react to the strikes
Residents in Sanaa described the intensity of the strikes, saying they felt like an earthquake.
“The explosions were violent and shook the neighborhood like an earthquake. They terrified our women and children,” a resident said.
Another strike on a power station in Saada’s Dahyan resulted in a power outage, according to Al-Masirah TV.
The situation remains tense as the US continues its military operations, with the Houthis vowing retaliation and Iran facing mounting pressure from Washington.
