Another suspected attempt to derail trains in Raebareli amid growing concerns

A goods train collided with cement slabs placed on the tracks in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, marking yet another incident in a troubling trend of suspected attempts to derail trains. The collision occurred in the Laxmanpur area, where it is believed that three slabs from a nearby field were deliberately placed on the railway line. Fortunately, no significant accidents were reported as a result of the incident.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) team from Unchahar is currently investigating the situation. Authorities are particularly concerned, as there have been multiple reports over the past month of objects being placed on tracks to disrupt train operations across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

Just last week, police arrested a man in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly attempting to derail a train by placing iron rods on the tracks. Additionally, major accidents were narrowly avoided when gas cylinders were found on railway tracks in Kanpur. In Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, at least ten detonators were discovered on a track intended to target a train carrying Army personnel. Furthermore, three wagons of a goods train derailed between Misrod and Mandideep stations near Bhopal.

In Rajasthan, cement blocks were found on the tracks in Ajmer, and two individuals were arrested in Gujarat’s Botad district for placing an iron rail piece on a railway track. In many of these incidents, the alertness of loco pilots has been crucial in preventing major accidents.

In response to the increasing threats, RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) have ramped up their patrols, including foot patrols along railway lines, to ensure passenger safety.
