New cell to bridge the gap between military service and civilian careers

The Uttarakhand government has decided to establish India’s first dedicated Agniveer Employment Cell to help Agniveers find employment and access government schemes after completing their military service. The initiative is aimed at ensuring a smoother transition from military service to civilian careers.

The cell will help connect Agniveers with employment opportunities, government departments and other schemes. The state had earlier announced 10% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in state government jobs, including positions in the police, forest department and disaster management, along with age relaxation and recruitment priority.

The initiative will also support self-employment opportunities. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced special grants for Agniveers and ex-servicemen to establish homestays, besides support for self-employment-related infrastructure in border villages.

The move comes as the first batches of Agniveers approach the end of their four-year service. The state’s employment cell is expected to act as a bridge between trained Agniveers and potential employers across government and private sectors.
