Dr. Swamy threatens PM Modi, HM Shah with legal action over protecting Rahul Gandhi in British citizenship case
BJP leader and former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy on Saturday threatened to take legal action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly protecting Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in matters of his British citizenship. Swamy posted in X Union Home Ministry’s 2019 show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi for holding British Citizenship from 2003.
“Why are Modi and Shah protecting Rahul Gandhi when he is a foreign citizen having acquired British Citizenship in 2003 and started a company called BackOpps in London? His Indian citizenship is invalid. If Modi continues to protect, I will have to file a case against him Modi&Shah,” asked Swamy, posting the Union Home Ministry’s show cause notice to Rahul Gandhi.

In 2015, Subramanian Swamy exposed Rahul Gandhi’s British citizenship. As per the documents released by Swamy, Rahul declared himself a British citizen in the London Company Register with a London resident address. Till 2009, Rahul Gandhi was running a firm called BackOps in London, and in all documents, he declared himself as a British Citizen, though he had been a Member of Parliament in India since 2004.[1]
Subramanian Swamy also shared the British company documents on Saturday. “This is Rahul Gandhi’s Annual Return filed with the British government as a British citizen. Is Modi blackmailed by Sonia to not take action?,” asked Swamy uploading the company documents filed by Rahul Gandhi, declaring himself as a British citizen.

In the current atmosphere of narratives, not very desirable for Modi/Shah to be seen going after RaGa however genuine the case may be . Just as in the case of National Herald, the duo could not be blamed for vindictiveness, if Mr. Swami is seen to be forcing their hand through the courts, the narrative building for victimhood has no scope.
The regimes are being held hostage and even toppled on the basis of narratives in the present age of social-media, a new type of governance challenge. In hind sight the CCA, Farmers’ agitation and the Maratha reservation agitation were handled without allowing it to become a narrative building in absence of a stern punitive action by government. TIRE THEM OUT, no amount of money can sustain a narrative based agitation beyond a point.
