    A massive blaze swept through a three-storey commercial building in Aliganj, triggering panic as students jumped from the first floor while rescue teams battled the flames

    At least 14 people, including students, were killed after a massive fire broke out in a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday afternoon. Several others are feared trapped as rescue operations continue.

    The fire was reported around 3 pm from a building located on Usha Mehta Marg in the city’s upscale Aliganj neighbourhood. The structure housed a coaching centre and a pet clinic and was surrounded by residential and commercial establishments.

    Firefighters rushed to the scene and launched an extensive rescue operation. Authorities deployed 14 fire tenders, including a hydraulic platform vehicle, to contain the blaze and evacuate those trapped inside.

    Dramatic visuals from the incident showed students jumping from the first floor in a desperate bid to escape as flames and thick smoke rapidly spread through the building.

    Eyewitnesses said panic gripped the area as people rushed to help those trying to flee the structure. Emergency personnel worked for hours to rescue occupants and bring the situation under control.

    Rescue operation underway

    Officials said several people were rescued from the building, while search teams continued to inspect the premises for anyone who may still be trapped.

    The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, and authorities are expected to launch a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

    The building is located near Purania market in a busy part of Aliganj known for coaching institutes, cafes and commercial establishments.

    Yogi Adityanath expresses condolences

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

    The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately establish contact with the affected families and ensure that all necessary assistance is provided.

    He also instructed authorities to guarantee the best possible medical treatment for those injured in the fire.

    Probe ordered

    Yogi Adityanath has directed the Director General of Police and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to visit the site and submit a detailed report on the incident.

    The Chief Minister said a thorough investigation would be conducted and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence or safety violations.

    According to officials, the Chief Minister has been continuously monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates from senior officers overseeing the rescue and relief operations.

    The tragedy has once again raised concerns over fire safety compliance in commercial buildings and educational institutions operating in densely populated urban areas.
