At least 14 people were killed after a helicopter operated by Saudi Arabia‘s energy giant Saudi Aramco crashed near Ras Tanura on Sunday, authorities said. The cause of the crash remains unknown, with officials confirming that an investigation has been launched to determine what led to the accident.
According to Saudi Arabia’s state news agency, the helicopter went down under circumstances that are yet to be established. Authorities said all 14 victims were Saudi nationals but have not released their identities or provided additional details about the flight.
Probe launched into crash
Saudi officials said it is too early to determine the cause of the accident, and investigators are examining all possible factors.
Expressing condolences over the tragedy, the Saudi Ministry of Energy said:
“The ministry of energy extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased, praying that Almighty God grants them mercy and forgiveness and accepts them among the martyrs. Indeed, we belong to God, and to Him we shall return.”
The ministry added that further information would be shared once the investigation progresses.
Crash near strategic energy hub
The accident occurred in Ras Tanura, one of Saudi Arabia’s most strategically important energy centres. The city is home to the largest oil refinery in West Asia and one of Saudi Aramco’s key operational facilities. It also hosts one of the world’s largest crude oil export terminals, making it a vital hub for global energy supplies.
