Counter-terror operations intensify in Jammu region after Kathua encounter
A Pakistani terrorist affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit was killed on Friday in a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua district, officials said, as search operations continued in the area.
The operation was launched in the Billawar area following specific intelligence inputs. Security forces cordoned off the region and established contact with the terrorist, who was neutralised in a precise strike.
“A Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small JKP team in a joint operation with the Army and CRPF in the general area of Billawar, Kathua district,” Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) B.S. Tuti said.
Security agencies said search operations remain underway amid inputs suggesting the presence of more terrorists in the region.
Multiple encounters across Jammu region
The Kathua operation comes amid heightened counter-terror activity across the Jammu region. On Thursday, a soldier was injured in a fresh gunfight with Jaish terrorists in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district after a brief lull of four days.
A group of two to three Pakistan-based JeM terrorists is believed to be trapped in the area, prompting additional troop deployments and aerial evacuation support.
Meanwhile, a cordon-and-search operation was also launched in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district after locals reported suspicious movement near the border.
Thursday’s encounter marked the fourth terror-related clash in the Jammu region this year, with the Kathua operation being the fifth.
